MEMBERS OF OUR SOCIETY HONOURED

At its recent annual meeting, the Hungarian Society of Victoria has extended honorary memberships to George and Susan Fias for their outstanding and dedicated work. The following is an excerpt of Edmond Vlaszaty’s nomination, unanimously accepted by the members of the Society:

Approximately a decade ago, a very nice family moved to Victoria. Of course this was Victoria's gain and Brampton, Ontario's loss. By now everyone of you knows I am talking about the Fias family. Short time after their arrival, they joined the Hungarian Society of Victoria. George volunteered to set up a web site for the Society, which he did and still keeps editing it. He also helped many members of the Society with their own computer problems. During the construction of our Cultural Centre, George planned all P.A. music and cable installations and purchases. He has helped the Szigeti Magyarság by contributing fine articles and editing the paper while John Miska took a sabbatical leave.
Some of his other accomplishments include the revival of our famous choir and the sending out notices to members for all of our cultural and societal events such as dinners and dances, commemorative gatherings, film evenings etc. It was George who organized the programs for our New Year’s Eve parties. Therefore, I would like to make a motion. I move the Hungarian Society of Victoria extend an honorary membership to George Fias for his many years of dedicated service to the Society, for his leadership and for his exceptional event organizational activities during the past years.

Furthermore, as you all know, behind every hard working and successful man there is a woman. However, George has not had one behind him, rather he has had Susan, his dedicated wife, beside him. They have always worked together hand in hand in love and understanding in establishing and maintaining a beautiful home and a happy family life. They have also made great contributions in many ways for many years to the Hungarian Society of Victoria.
Therefore I would like to make my second motion:
I move, the Hungarian Society of Victoria offer an Honorary Membership to Susan Fias for her many years of dedicated service to the Society.

As a coincidence, I happen to have the two certificates completed, only the president's signatures are required.

Congratulations to George and Susan and we wish them further success and happiness!

Susan and George Fias
